3G slowly developing

Following ARM’s development of on chip Java, Matsushita has announced one of the first 3G mobile phones using this technology, to be launched next year. Ericsson “is not expecting a mass market in 3G to develop before 2005″, and some analysts believe the roll-out could be delayed further. Ovum’s recent projection of 3G growth is “14.3 percent of the world’s mobile connections by 2007”. By then, “data transmission [could cost] 80% less than 2.5G technologies like GPRS”.
