FORscene Mobile Video Player for Symbian handsets

FORscene Mobile Player supports Symbian phones running S60 & UIQ user interfaces. Check first for compatibility on the websites below:

Downloading the player

There are four ways to get the FORscene Mobile Player onto your handset:

  1. The easiest way to get the player is to text "Go formobile" to 87121 and follow the instructions texted back (message costs £1.50 and can be used to access FORscene Mobile or other content where you see this Bango symbol).

  2. If a friend already has the player on their handset, they can Viewtooth it to you. Enable your Bluetooth connection; from the "Options" menu they should select "Bluetooth"; from the pop-up list, select "Nokia Player" or "Nokia 3G Player" or "Sony/Ericsson Player" as appropriate; follow the on-screen instructions.

  3. You can use the WAP browser on your handset, visit http://www.forbidden.co.uk/symbian6.1/index.wml and download the player from this WAP page.

  4. You can type your mobile number into the form below. You will be sent a text message containing a link to download the player.
Phone numbers should include the country code, e.g. +447779238047.

Following the link from the text message choose your mobile player and download depending on your type of handset:

Using the player

Once you have installed the player on your phone, you can use FORscene Mobile to download and watch videos. You can also Viewtooth videos between phones.

Downloading videos

This differs depending on which handset you are downloading onto.

On a Series 60 phone:

  • The player should appear on your phone's menu. If it is not in the top level menu, it may be inside a folder, e.g. "My own".
  • Open the player. There will be no videos yet, and it will say "no data".
  • Now go to "Options", "Get more videos..."
  • This will connect you to the server and get the list of available videos.
  • Choose a video from the list and select "Options", "Get now".
  • The video will download. You can stop the download at any time and watch what you have got so far. You can then continue from where you left off ("Options", "Get rest").

On a UIQ phone:

  • The player should appear on your phone's Application menu.
  • Open the player. There will be no videos yet.
  • Click on "Broadcast LIVE" on the title bar. This opens the menu. Go to "Get more videos..."
  • This will connect you to the server and get the list of available videos.
  • Choose a video from the list and click on it, or select "Get now" from the menu.
  • The video will download. You can stop the download at any time and watch what you have got so far. You can then continue from where you left off ("Get rest" on menu).

Viewtoothing videos

You can Bluetooth videos to your friends so they don't have to download them. However they will need to have the player running on their phone in order to receive a video. If they don’t have the player, you can Bluetooth this to them first.

Select a video, choose "Options", "Bluetooth video"; select the receiving phone name, which should be running FORscene Mobile, from the Bluetooth devices list. On accepting the connection, the video will be transferred.

You can't Bluetooth part videos. They must be completely downloaded.

Once a video has downloaded or part downloaded to your handset it appears in the play list. You can watch it by selecting and clicking on the video or by choosing "Play" from the menu. The video plays through from start to finish. You can adjust the volume by scrolling up and down or by moving up and down on the joystick.

Troubleshooting

Here are the most common problems and their solutions:

  • Q: "Go formobile" text reply does not launch WAP browser:

A: Your handset may not be configured for WAP.

  • Q: WAP browser displays 'Connecting' with actively orbiting 'G':

A: Player download is happening. This may take a few minutes.

  • Q: After you have OKed player install, WAP browser still displays 'Connecting...', without orbiting 'G':

A: Download has worked. Quit WAP browser.

  • Q: Cannot download additional videos:

A: Your handset may not be for TCP/IP access over GPRS. To check the settings click here
