Specifications and Java

The minimum specification to use FORscene is:

• 512 MB
• 2GHz CPU
• Broadband (2Mb/s recommended)
• Web browser
• Java

FORscene will work on less powerful computers.

Java Settings

We recommend Java 1.4 or better as this supports good quality audio and nice icons. FORscene should still work with Java 1.1.

FORscene requires 190MB of Java memory for optimal performance. These instructions explain how to configure this.

Windows using Sun Java 1.5 or 1.6

Open the Control Panel (in Start menu) and double click on the Java icon. Click the Java tab. In the "Java Applet Runtime Settings" box click on "View..." Set the Java Runtime Parameters to "-Xmx190M"
Click OK, then OK again.

Windows using Sun Java 1.4

Open the Control Panel (in Start menu) and double click on the Java Plugin icon. Click the Advanced tab. In the "Java Runtime Parameters" box, type in: "-Xmx190M"
Click Apply, then OK.

Mac System X using Sun Java 1.5

Open Macintosh HD -> "Applications" -> "Utilities" -> "Java" -> "Java Preferences". Then, on the (default) General tab, add into "Java Runtime Parameters": "-Xmx190M".

Mac System X using Sun Java 1.4

Open Macintosh HD -> "Applications" -> "Utilities" -> "Java" -> "Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings". Then, on the (default) General tab, add into "Java Runtime Parameters": "-Xmx190M".

Ensure all versions of Java listed in the applet parameter window have the same parameter and the parameter needs to be added each time a new Java version is installed. You then need to close all web browsers and restart FORscene.
