The FORscene Blackbird codec is designed for editing on the web, where intelligent speculative download helps to give full frame rate even on slow connections.
While Forbidden's latest codecs have much fuller support for larger pictures, those with fast connections can stream bigger videos with Blackbird - the
Shyama
video is reproduced here at 2Mb/s.

Lossless codec
Forbidden’s lossless codec, codenamed Osprey, allows professionals to upload videos into FORscene for editing without generation loss,
making published videos higher quality.
This
version of the film Shyama, compressed using the Blackbird codec from the lossless source,
has sharper detail and 25% lower datarate.

Editing
In broadcast television, FORscene is being used for more and more of the editing process.
For those who choose to finish on
FCP,
FORscene’s XML exports have been extended from frame accurate cuts-only edits to include transitions such as dissolve and wipes.

Scaling up

User limit
The FORscene administration interface has been upgraded to support the growing number of companies who provide FORscene to their clients.
For example, the hard limit on the number of concurrent users for an account can now be set from the local admin’s ‘settings’ tab.

FORscene for the ITV1 production ‘Children’s Hospital’.
Maverick Head of Facilities said:
