Efficiency

FORscene's servers on the internet backbone handle video post-production for many broadcast productions. Server disks double in capacity every year - and today's upgrade balances this by doubling the number of concurrent video streams which can be ingested into the system from around the world.

Television appearance

Forbidden's CEO, Stephen Streater, made a guest appearance on today's Trading Places internet TV channel. This is watched by an audience of around 60,000 subscribers to sharecrazy.com.

New servers

Forbidden has expanded the geographical spread of its FORscene servers by adding another site on the internet backbone. The new servers have the capacity to support editing of the output of up to 100 24/7 TV stations.

Titles

FORscene has long been able to import titles from graphics packages. It now has additional built in capabilities: by right clicking on a title, editors can set foreground / background colours and transparency, fades in and out, justification and layout - as this mobile shot video illustrates.

North One / Discovery

North One Television, one of the top UK Indies, has adopted FORscene for its production of Industrial Junkies, series 1, being made for Discovery EMEA. Loggers use FORscene remotely, allowing producers and directors to make shot selections and rough cuts easily. Edits are then exported from FORscene to Avid for finishing. Debbie Austin, Production Manager said: "FORscene was used by North One Television on a previous Discovery series ... it saves so much time and money." Michal Porecki, Series Producer said: "Now it's in use, we love it. The benefits are obvious".

Recent press

The Media Guardian asks: "Which tech businesses or web thinkers are the ones to watch?" Vlad Lodzinski, director of content for LP33.tv replies: "In pure tech FORscene, an online editing system, will be massive. They're edging closer to Final Cut Pro territory, and doing some big deals that will propel them over the coming year or two".

World first

Cayuga Community College (SUNY) is using FORscene to teach the art of video editing in the world's first on-line video production course. "We can now walk students through the entire process of editing from shooting, uploading, logging, reviewing, collaboration, assembly editing and into modern video publishing to a cross-platform on the web, ipod or mobile ... This is a dream come true for distance learning", said Steve Keeler Director, Broadcasting/Electronic Media Chairperson, Division of Humanities and Communication. Students who complete the course receive college credit that is transferrable to other SUNY institutions as well as other colleges throughout the US.

Server upgrade

Forbidden is transforming its FORscene servers on the internet backbone at Telehouse into an internationally distributed supercomputer to support scaling up of its operations around the globe. Last week's upgrade to Forbidden's Broadcast servers was a step in this process.

CBC update

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has embraced FORscene as its official review system for all of its Arts and Entertainment, including Factual productions. FORscene allows senior management and decision-makers access to review dailies, cuts and final versions, as well as the independent production companies. CBC now requires all A&E independent productions to use FORscene. It allows CBC management and business staff the authorized access and convenience of reviewing dailies from any location across Canada - at any time in a virtual review room.
