Java Web Start
FORscene and Clesh are normally run within a web browser. With Java Web Start, you can run web-based software as a desktop application without the normal Java memory limit. To see this, try the Web Start version of the Clesh guest account.

Cayuga Telecommunications report on their front page: "Cayuga Community College's Electronic Media Programs remain on the cutting edge of technology by adopting a revolutionary new web-based video editing platform called FORscene ... Cayuga is preparing television, journalism, film and radio students for the next wave of technology to sweep the industry - frame accurate and time-code accurate logging, editing and collaboration over the Internet. The only software developer able to crack this code is United Kingdom-based Forbidden Technologies plc." Cayuga have published some documentaries made with FORscene here and here.

FORscene upgrade
FORscene Load on the Mac, which allows DV videos to be compressed locally before uploading to the server, has improved upload reliability on poor internet connections. It is available from the Forbidden website.

Roundtable
Forbidden's CEO took part in a roundtable today on Citizen Journalism. The event, attended by senior press, broadcasting and legal representatives, was chaired by Kelly Thompson, VP of iStockphoto, the internet's premier royalty-free stock photo community. Forbidden's Clesh, the web's video toolkit, is the perfect companion for the aspiring Citizen Journalist.

Documentary
FORscene is being used increasingly by professionals for editing and publishing. The video: "A tale of Two Lakes (the Beauty and the Beast)" - a 25 minute documentary - is the latest professional video to be published on the Clesh Showreel using FORscene.

Presentation
Formidable Technologies has teamed up with the SBE to run the student workshop this year at the Broadcast & Technology Expo in New York. Forbidden's CEO, Stephen Streater, this morning gave a one hour presentation to the Expo delegates on FORscene and how it was being used in the workshop.

Formidable Technologies is exhibiting at the 2007 Broadcast & Technology Expo in New York in conjunction with Cayuga Community College. This is the 35th annual Expo organised by the Society of Broadcast Engineers, Chapter 22, Central New York.

Blackbird codec
The next release of Forbidden's Blackbird 3 video codec, and Blackbird 4 which will be released shortly, both take 1MB less memory than the current release. This will help web videos published in Forbidden's Java format, and all FORscene and Clesh users.

Strategy
Once or twice a year, Forbidden holds an extended strategy meeting where selected people from Forbidden make long term plans for the company. This autumn's meeting is taking place today and tomorrow.

Clesh subscriptions
Forbidden's Clesh video editing system is available to Forbidden's shareholders and through Forbidden's corporate customers. Forbidden is planning a Paypal payments button for the Clesh Showreel page to allow direct subscription to Clesh over the web.

Blackbird codec
Work on the latest version of Forbidden's Blackbird video editing codec is at an advanced stage. With internet connections continuing to improve rapidly, the main thrust of this codec is an improvement in picture quality - though a datarate reduction is added for good measure.
