Google ads

Forbidden uses Google ads to increase awareness of the company and its products. These ads have proved highly successful, with the milestone of a million click-throughs being reached today.

The AV magazine article "Take two for citizen journalism" talks about how the Wildscreen festival used Forbidden's FORscene: "Clips were then posted to the FORscene interface and edited using the platform. After this they were then uploaded to Google Video and other locations on the web, before being exported to mobile phones through FORscene, Forbidden Technologies' web-based post production platform".

Spell checker

Forbidden's FORscene web-based video editing and logging system now has a spell checker. Text in FORscene's built in chat system, as well as logging metadata, is automatically checked. The user is given the option of correcting misspellings or updating the dictionary.

Guelph talk

Forbidden's Canadian distributor, Formidable Technologies, has organised a talk at Guelph University to be given by Forbidden CEO Stephen B Streater. Whilst previous talks have targeted media people, the audience for this talk will comprise staff from across the whole university.

FORscene has attracted the attention of Guelph University in Canada. This internal newsletter says: "A noteworthy feature about FORscene is its strength in allowing for collaboration and secure simultaneous work on any given project". The editor concludes: "While on a recent summer-long educational pursuit at Ryerson University in the field of New Media, I used the FORscene system parallel to other editing and post-production suites. I found the system to be a mature, advanced and extremely useful tool".

Brad Fuller, the Technorati blogger, has been discussing the future of television and User Generated Content (UGC): "Online video has seen major changes since the appearance of inexpensive video editing tools in the hands of the common man ... World première

FORscene has been used by producers at WCSFP to edit, publish and host "mini masterpieces" shot on the latest mobile phones. The short films of the three day Congress will receive their world premières at the closing session, "That Was the Congress that Was".

Forbidden's CEO, Stephen B Streater, has been invited to join a panel discussion at the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers. The discussion, "Visions on the Future", takes place between 4:00pm and 5:30pm on Sunday 12 November.

Web download

Forbidden's FORscene web editing system can publish video in a variety of formats. Podcasts published and hosted through FORscene can be viewed through a standard web browser. For example, with the Nokia N93, users can shoot video, upload it to the web, edit and publish the video with FORscene, and download it to mobile phones through standard web browsers. No FORscene software installation is required at any stage.

Web upload

Forbidden's FORscene web video editing system accepts video and graphics input in a variety of ways. The simplest is through a standard web browser: simply add "webupload" to your FORscene account URL and follow the on screen instructions. This is particularly handy for mobile phones users. The Nokia N93 can even upload video over WiFi through the Opera web browser.

WCSFP

The World Congress of Science & Factual Producers (WCSFP) meets in England this year. The programme includes Forbidden demonstration slots on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, where the philosophy behind FORscene will be elucidated. Each demonstration will be followed by a discussion.

Wild screen festival

FORscene was used for the Wild screen international wildlife and environmental film festival. "The project is part of a panel session involving the BBC, Google UK, Natural World and Aardman Animations, discussing how the revolution of new viewing techniques such podcasts, blogs and mobile is changing the industry", says the BBC's Paul Williams, who has published his final edit of the Bugz video in his blog.
