LA-based Chris Davison has published an article in the influential newletter itvt.com. "... In the end, we witness a man who went to Vancouver for a brand new tech show, not knowing what to expect. He came back a changed man, transformed by the realization that he too could create, edit, publish, share and collaborate on professional-looking videos without having to pay a fee, install software or read a help file ... if YouTube or another of the myriad video-sharing sites now springing up all over the Web were to adopt a technology like this, user-generated video could make a quantum leap forward into the interactive space".

Web videos

Since the recent republication and hosting of the videos on this website using FORscene, they have been watched over 100,000 times. Although FORscene hits are dominated by professional video post-production, this nevertheless demonstrates how FORscene is a practical solution for editing, publishing and hosting videos for company websites.

PC upgrade

FORscene Load on the PC allows import of video into FORscene, either from an AVI file or directly from a DV tape via Firewire. Version 1.4.5 is now available. The professional version has also been upgraded, to version 4.4.13.

Broadcast Buyer reports on Forbidden's latest citizen journalism project, at the internationally acknowledged Wildscreen Festival for wildlife and environmental filmmaking. "The project is part of a panel session involving the BBC, Google UK, Natural World and Aardman Animations, discussing how the revolution of new viewing techniques such podcasts, blogs and mobile is changing the industry ... The opportunities presented by new media such as podcasts, blogs, and in particular user-generated content over the Internet and mobile phones, is having an increasingly significant effect on the industry,” said Paul Williams, Researcher at the BBC."

Mac upgrade

FORscene Load Mac has just been upgraded to version 1.4.12. This version has many user interface refinements and warns if you unplug a disc drive while it is uploading.

Formidable at FTX West

Forbidden's distributor Formidable Technologies is exhibiting at FTX West in Vancouver (12-15 October). To coincide with this, FTX West has invited Forbidden's CEO, Stephen B Streater, to give two talks on the Web revolution in video post-production. The talks will be given on Friday at 3:00pm and on Saturday at 11:00am. Forbidden's world-leading web-based video editing platform, FORscene, will feature.

Ingest once

FORscene's ingest once workflow allows entire TV programmes to be made with only one play through of the source tapes. FORscene stores both the browse quality video for working with on the Web, and the broadcast quality content for the final broadcast production, usually finished on FCP or Avid. The latest series made using this workflow had nearly 1,000 hours of source material, so ingest once saved hundreds of man hours for ingest, the cost of tape machine hire, and Avid/FCP ingest time.

Shareholder offer

FORscene has now been used in the post-production of around 100 broadcast television programmes. "'Ryerson University is innovatively using the web-based video editing platform, FORscene to assist in a collaborative editing process of video' said Lila Pine, School of Image Arts, New Media Faculty at Ryerson University ... 'I immediately saw the benefits of using FORscene for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada funded New Media Documentary project that I am working on,' said Pine". Toronto-based Ryerson University is one of the leading media Universities in North America.
