FORupload Mac

Forbidden's FORupload for the Apple Mac is in beta test. Drop QuickTime files into the FORupload window to add them to the upload queue. Editing with FORscene or Clesh can start, even on the same computer, within seconds.

DEC technology day

Today, the BBC has been holding a technology day in Studio 4, Television Centre. Drama, Entertainment and Children have combined to review technologies which can be used within the BBC in the short term. Forbidden Technologies was invited to participate, and has been demonstrating FORscene to an enthusiastic BBC audience.

Upgrade

Web 2.0 applications such as Clesh and FORscene are straightforward to upgrade. This time it is the front end which has been improved, with a better file and web/mobile publishing interface.

As well as items previously reported here, recent coverage of Forbidden's Clesh launch includes items in ShareCast: "Tiscali deal boosts Forbidden", bios, Stock Junction, thisismoney. Bloomberg: "Tiscali SpA, Europe's third- largest Internet-service provider, will offer Forbidden Technologies' Clesh software to its customers", Dow Jones, and International Herald Tribune: "The package allows people to edit video and mobile-phone footage and post it on the Internet".

Upgrade

FORscene and Clesh both benefit from the latest upgrade to the Blackbird codec. Decompression is now 30% faster, so editors will be able to work on slower desktops and laptops.

The Broadcast Facilities section reports on Forbidden's latest award: "Video streaming specialist Forbidden Technologies has won the RTA award for technology in post-production for its web based editing facility, FORscene ... the service [is] used for logging, editing and reviewing content".

Library

Clesh comes with a Library. Stocked initially with video from Forbidden and its partner Simply Stream TV, the Library gives Clesh users access to a searchable database of third party content.

Recent press

The Independent and the Times mentioned Forbidden's launch of Clesh, its consumer video and publishing software. The Financial Times had an article reporting: "... Forbidden Technologies, the Aim-listed group that provides software for video streaming and editing, saw its shares rise by 29 per cent after it announced a deal with Tiscali, the UK's fourth biggest internet service provider". The Business explained yesterday: "... The company has already trailblazed the new technology with an online computerised editing suite called FORscene aimed at professional users", going on to mention series for BBC1, ITV1 and Channel 5 made using FORscene. "Forbidden is launching a consumer version of its online editing suite called Clesh through a partnership with Tiscali. Clesh can be accessed from any desktop computer and be used to incorporate video from digital video cameras and mobile phone cameras to create edited films".

BBC Innovations Day

BBC Manchester held their Innovations Day yesterday. The event was aimed primarily at BBC decision makers. Companies invited to exhibit included Avid, Apple, Sony, Panasonic, Thomson and JVC, as well as Forbidden.

Tiscali competition

Tiscali is hosting a video competition: "Become a Film-Maker And Win A Weekend Away". The editing and publishing uses Clesh; details of the competition, which is free to enter, are available on the Tiscali web site.

Clesh launch

Forbidden Technologies, with video content owner Simply Stream TV and ISP Tiscali, launched Forbidden's consumer video editing and sharing tool Clesh today. You can see the announcement here.

New Codec

Forbidden has a new video codec - Blackbird. Typical codecs, such as MPEG, are aimed primarily at video streaming applications. Forbidden's new Blackbird codec meets the needs of web-based video editors - consistent quality, responsive shuttling and full frame rate editing, all over variable downlinks (with relatively slow uplinks) and on a wide range of computers. Blackbird opens up FORscene to a much larger audience.

Recent press

Regional Film and Video has picked up on another Granada / FORscene story. "The project, ‘Extreme Ghost Stories’ is Granada's new drama reconstruction series, which will be aired on ITV1 ... Based on the success of FORscene's use on 'Trust Me I'm a Holiday Rep', Granada took the decision to use the platform again".

Prime Time

This evening, the BBC is broadcasting the first prime time television series to be made using FORscene. Super Vets, which shows the Royal Veterinary College in action, is being broadcast at 8.30pm this evening on BBC1.
