XML

FORscene has been upgraded to support XML output. XML input is used by Apple's Final Cut Pro. Logging information, sync pulls and assembly edits created over the web in FORscene (which works on PCs and Macs) can be transferred directly into FCP, which efficiently redigitizes the relevant material (with handles), or relinks to existing media.

FORscene upgrade

Each FORscene user has a unique password protected web page, maintained by Forbidden. Today's upgrade, which appears automatically by opening the web page on PCs or Macs, has a varied selection of improvements. These include refinements to the logging functionality requested by ITV and BBC users, and improvements to internet access performance.

Recent press

The influential professional video site Sypha has an article about FORscene. Following a visit to Forbidden's stand at IBC, they report: "FORscene enables 'mobile' reporting with upload and edit functionality for mobile phone stills and video".

Broadcast conference

The Tapeless Production Conference, which is taking place on October 13th, will cover the implications of the move to tapeless production. Forbidden Technologies will be showing FORscene, its tapeless system for logging, editing, reviewing and publishing.

3G upgrade

The new Nokia 3G 6680 can run FORmobile. Any video edited in FORscene can be published with a single drag and drop - then anyone with a 2.5G or 3G phone running FORmobile can see it. Forbidden recommends its partner Orange for 3G phone connections.

FORscene upgrade

FORscene is upgraded as required to meet customer needs. The latest upgrade allows video with multiple audio tracks to be uploaded for logging, editing, reviewing and publishing.

Recent press

Showreel's new sister magazine, Newsreel, has a double page review of FORscene. "Unlike other non-linear edit systems, FORscene doesn't require any software installation or media storage ... It is the intention of FORscene to 'transform the post-production industry', and it all sounds pretty revolutionary". The experienced editor continues the article: "There are plenty of things that are unique about FORscene ... I can see advantages in FORscene in terms of logging, news gathering and client approval".

TV broadcast

The first television programme made with Forbidden's FORscene was on national television last night. You can view the series, "Trust Me - I'm a Holiday Rep", for yourself - it is being broadcast each evening on Channel 5.

Audio levels

As demonstrated at IBC, FORscene now provides audio level controls. As usual, a right mouse click brings up the more advanced features - in this case by right clicking on the A1, A2, A3 or A4 button and then on the corresponding L button and then the audio level itself for progressively more advanced functionality.

Forbidden is one of six companies to have featured on this podcast about IBC. It was the top podcast in its category on iTunes during the convention.

IBC summary

Forbidden had its biggest presence ever at IBC with the stand attracting more senior industry figures this year. The two top Apple representatives came to investigate the FORscene Mac version, on show for the first time. Many people who visited last year came back and were very pleased with Forbidden's progress. This comment, from an influential figure in one of the world's biggest production companies, was typical: "You might think FORscene is very significant, but it's much bigger than you realise".

Recent TV

The Chairman of IBC gave an introduction, in person, to the IBC television news item covering Forbidden Technologies. The consensus is that Forbidden's internet workflow is the way of the future. Those of you with the IBC branded mobile player can download the video over the air or receive it for free via Viewtooth.

TV coverage

Forbidden Technologies was featured on the Dutch television station A2. The video was shot on one of the new Nokia VHS quality mobile phones. FORmobile already works on these phones.

Drinks reception

Forbidden is hosting an invitation only drinks reception for leading figures in the broadcast industry. The event starts at 18.30 tonight in the Orangery, Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam.

Mobile FORscene upload

Forbidden has launched at IBC 2005 an upgrade to FORscene which allows photographs and videos captured on the new generation of camera phones to be uploaded over the air directly into FORscene. The videos and slides can be combined with professionally shot material using the full power of FORscene and published to web or mobile.

Share options

As a quoted company, Forbidden can reward directors and staff for their successes, and encourage them to higher achievement, with the grant of share options. These options are always granted at the prevailing market price. Following the recent results, all permanent members of staff have been granted share options, including our new Finance Director, Phil Madden.

"Granada trials remote editing", says the unusually large Broadcast headline. "THE world of mobile, on-location editing has come a step closer with Granada pioneering an internet-based system to log and perform basic editing on PCs with broadband internet access. Granada used the FORscene system, developed by Forbidden Technologies, on its latest 10-part documentary series Trust me I'm a holiday Rep ... The series, which airs on 18 September ... generated over 300 hours of rushes ... Producer/director Tom Edwards, who was using the system for the first time said: 'it saved money on VHS transfers and tape decks. You can produce edit lists and use it remotely from anywhere.'". Forbidden's stand at IBC 2005 will showcase FORscene.

Televisual has their IBC preview this month. Their article "Must-have technology" has several paragraphs on Forbidden Technologies and FORscene.
