Vodafone UK is reported by vnunet.com as extending its micropayment service. "To complete a transaction with participating traders, customers enter their user name and password as opposed to entering their full details as required by credit and debit card transactions." Automatic Pre-Load

The latest feature to be added to Forbidden's player is an automatic pre-load for more difficult content. When used in conjunction with the 'image at start-up' feature announced last week, the first frame of the video appears very quickly, and the play button appears when the video is ready to start. This feature appears automatically when you have a slow link and viewers with a slow link will be able to see it here.

Image at start-up

Forbidden Technologies has added another new feature to its video product range. Now all videos automatically start with a JPEG of the first video frame which is displayed while the player downloads. This allows effective incorporation of video into webpages which currently contain only graphics. Examples can be seen on our website here.

Ericsson "is not expecting a mass market in 3G to develop before 2005", and some analysts believe the roll-out could be delayed further. Ovum's recent projection of 3G growth is "14.3 percent of the world's mobile connections by 2007". By then, "data transmission [could cost] 80% less than 2.5G technologies like GPRS".
